Physician Job Description
Position Objective
The Physician is an administrative and operational role that will provide exceptional medical care to patients by conducting physical exams, ordering and interpreting diagnostic tests, and developing patient treatment plans. This role is a safety-sensitive position as it involves direct patient care and administering medication. The incumbent will work closely with other healthcare professionals to provide quality care to patients collaborating with other clinical teams to support team function.
Responsibilities
- Practice medicine using sound medical judgment and adhere to all ethical considerations of the practice of medicine; know limitations and seek consultation when advisable; keep abreast of current technologies and industry standards
- Meet all clinical obligations of the medical practice: Accrediting Agency compliance, CLIA compliance, drug prescription compliance, HIPAA, State and Federal regulations, Safety Regulations, etc.
- Independently provide care for patients with acute and chronic illness encountered in the older adult patient
- Accountable for patient care and outcomes and will appropriately seek consultation from specialists when needed, though will stay involved in, and be responsible for, the detailed care of the patient
- Engage with hospitalists whenever a patient is in the hospital
- Assess, diagnose, treat, manage, educate, promote health, and provide care coordination and documentation for patients with acute and complex chronic health needs using evidence-based medicine and practice guidelines
- Maintain complete and detailed records, electronically in the EMR, of patients’ health care plans and prognosis, completed within 48 hours of each patient’s visit
- Provide quality evidence-based medical care in a managed care environment, focused on prevention, and outcomes
- Exhibit behavior that emphasizes compassion, quality, loyalty, and conscientiousness
- Interpret data and diagnostic results for an appropriate course of action including but not limited to blood gasses, radiology, EKG, etc. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients, their families, and team members
- Oversee and supervise Nurse Practitioners and/or Physician Assistants when requested
- Responsible for ensuring that patients are seen at least every other visit by a Physician
- Provide 5-Star service in accordance with Better Health Group's mission
- Additional duties as assigned
Position Requirements / Skills
- Medical degree from an accredited medical school.
- Active medical license in the state of practice.
- At least 3 years of experience in outpatient primary care.
- ACLS/BLS certification as required by the state of practice.
- Excellent diagnostic skills and ability to interpret medical tests and results
- Proficient in diagnosing and managing chronic diseases (e.g., diabetes, atherosclerotic disease, COPD, CHF, obesity) in the senior population.
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret professional journals, technical procedures, and regulatory guidance.
- Appreciation for cultural diversity and sensitivity toward target patient populations.
- Proficiency in Google Suite (Drive, Docs, Sheets, Slides).
- Strong organizational and time-management skills with exceptional attention to detail.
- Ability to multitask, prioritize, and adapt in a rapidly changing environment.
- Demonstrated ability to handle emergencies calmly and effectively.
- Demonstrated resourcefulness, initiative, and results-oriented focus on quality execution and delivery
- Demonstrated ability to handle confidential information and data with professionalism and discretion.
- Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with senior leadership, providers, and health plans.

- Ability to work cross-functionally and independently with minimal supervision
Physical Requirements
- Must be capable of a full range of body motion, including handling and transferring patients, with sufficient manual dexterity and eye-hand coordination.
- Requires frequent standing, walking, pushing, bending, kneeling, and reaching (both at arm’s length and overhead) within a clinical environment for prolonged periods.
- Must be able to lift and move patients and medical equipment as necessary.
- Requires the ability to lift and carry up to 15 pounds.
- Must have corrected vision and hearing within normal range.
- Requires the ability to sit for extended periods of time.
- Must be able to operate a motor vehicle and maintain reliable means of transportation.
